  • Author: SOPHIE
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A cozy farmhouse-style dessert featuring tender cinnamon apples baked under a buttery golden oat topping, inspired by Joanna Gaines’ simple Magnolia Table baking style.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples about ¼-inch thick.
  3. In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Add the cold butter cubes and work them into the mixture with your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apple mixture without pressing it down.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the crisp rest for about 10 minutes.
  10. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples for the best balance of tartness and sweetness. Let the crisp rest before serving so the filling thickens properly.
