Description
A cozy farmhouse-style dessert featuring tender cinnamon apples baked under a buttery golden oat topping, inspired by Joanna Gaines’ simple Magnolia Table baking style.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples about ¼-inch thick.
- In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold butter cubes and work them into the mixture with your fingers or a pastry cutter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apple mixture without pressing it down.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let the crisp rest for about 10 minutes.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
Use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples for the best balance of tartness and sweetness. Let the crisp rest before serving so the filling thickens properly.
